Israel Targets Iran Military Forces In Syria

Israel unleashed a heavy dose of its own military might as it bombarded several targeted military facilities of Iran in Syria. The powerful attack which was in response to Iran firing rockets at territories that are held by Israel.
According to the Syrian Army Command, Israel’s attack resulted in the death of at least three people while seriously wounding two more. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights which is based in the United Kingdom, reported that the strikes killed an estimated 23 people. The casualties included both Syrians and non-Syrians.
Analysts believe that tensions between Syria and Iran were further stoked after United States President Donald Trump announced recently that he would pull the U.S. out of its nuclear accord with Iran.
President Trump based his decision on a report handed to him by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu which showed that Iran attempted to develop a nuclear bomb. According to President Trump, the report proved to him that Iran “cannot be trusted”.
It is also believed that President Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of the nuclear accord was influenced by Iran’s continued participation in the Middle East.
The 2015 nuclear accord was negotiated by former U.S. President Barack Obama. The termination of the agreement would mean that economic sanctions would be immediately imposed on Iran.
Avigdor Lieberman, Defence Minister for Israel reported that the rockets fired by Iran either missed their targets or were wiped out of the sky.
Lieberman estimates that around 20 Iranian Grad and Fajr rockets were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome air defence system. It was reported that the Quds Force carried out the attack on Israel. The Quds Force is part of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said that Iran’s attack on the Israel stronghold of Golan was further proof President Trump’s decision on the nuclear accord was the right one:
“It was just further demonstration that the Iranian regime cannot be trusted and another good reminder that the President made the right decision to get out of the Iran deal.”
