Show Description
On this week’s review show we are joined again by now regular Unshackled Contributor Jacob Watts. Last week the left was declaring war on Australia Day, over the weekend it was our colonial statues and this week it is geographical place names. We explore how such a tiny minority of leftist activists have been able to launch such an effective assault on Australian history which has already influenced Bill Shorten and the Labor Party. We also state that none of this rewriting of history does anything to help indigenous disadvantage in the present day.

We analyze the federal government’s latest asylum seeker crackdown which involves cutting off income and housing support to asylum seekers in Australia because of medical treatment. Immigration Minister Peter Dutton explained on 2GB with Alan Jones they can’t send them back to Nauru or Manus because of legal challenges and called lawyers representing asylum seekers pro-bono un-Australian. We state that although the government is weak on immigration overall when it comes to stopping the boats and making sure the people smuggling trade never resumes both the Abbott and Turnbull governments have been exemplary. A Shorten Labor government would guarantee the boats would return.

We take some time to discuss the concept of Turnbullnomics or in other words the Turnbull government’s economic agenda. We highlight that the label of Labor-lite is well deserved as this week Treasurer Scott Morrison announced he wanted to regulate the salaries of bank CEOs. If you add this to the bank levy announced in the budget and the passing of Gonski 2.0 funding it appears the free market tradition of the Liberal Party under Howard has been abandoned. They are attacking Bill Shorten as a socialist however they are allowing the Australian welfare state to continue.

We also comment on North Korea’s most provocative move yet launching a missile over Japan. Donald Trump said all options are on the table. We debate whether Trump can be blamed for the current state of crises with his provocative language however a nuclear capable North Korea has been years in the making with previous Presidents unwilling to take action to reign in the rogue state. We also debate whether regime change in North Korea is inevitable and desirable.
