At The Unshackled we normally focus on politics and steer clear of sports and entertainment. However given that the Australian cricket team ball tampering scandal has been national news for the past two weeks we thought we’d add our two cents in. To discuss it we were joined by The Unshackled’s Editor at Large Jacob Watts who is both a cricket player and follower.
We discuss the cultural problems that led to such a brazen attempt at cheating and how it has damaged cricket in Australia as a whole. We look at who is most at fault out of the three who were part of the plot: Captain Steve Smith, Vice-Captain David Warner and bowler Cameron Bancroft. We assess their apology press conference and discuss whether they and Australian cricket can be redeemed.
