Victorian Premier Dan Andrews this afternoon declared a state of disaster as Victoria’s coronavirus curve of new cases and deaths continues to fluctuate. This now ushers in further unprecedented restrictions on our way of life.
State of Disaster Measures
It is being referred by Andrews and the media as level four lockdown. The most disturbing draconian aspects of these new lockdown restrictions are a nightly curfew of 8pm except for work and seeking medical care or caregiving, daily exercise limited to 1 hour per day, and a 5km travel limit on purchasing essentials (you can only shop on your own now) and undertaking exercise (strict limit of two people).
Victoria’s state of disaster will be enforced under powers granted to the state government under the Emergency Management Act 2013. Under this act declaring a state of “disaster” instead of an “emergency” is deemed necessary because “government has broken down” and therefore it is necessary to “override civil rights”.
Some of the extreme powers from a disaster declaration is that anyone in Victoria can be arrested and held without trial. “Authorised officers” can be appointed to enforce lockdown measures and don’t need warrants for search and entry have no restrictions on their powers. The courts are also banned from hearing legal challenges to any action under the Emergency Management Act.
This new state of disaster and associated restrictions has been enacted to last six weeks until September 13. This makes Victoria’s lockdown sequel much worse than the original. The path to this Stage 4 lockdown began with the 10 hotspot postcode stage 3 lockdown on July 2, the Greater Melbourne and Mitchell Shire stage 3 lockdown on July 9. The face-covering mandate in in the same area came into effect July 23 representing stage 3.5. Rural and regional Victoria including Geelong still remains under stage 3 lockdown.
However, Victoria’s stage 4 is still different from that of New Zealand’s stage four. Although non-fresh food retailers such as Bunnings, Kmart, Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi will be closed to customers they will still operate click and collect/deliver services.
Fast food outlets McDonald’s and KFC will still operate as take-away and delivery but they will all be forced to close by 8pm. Pharmacies and petrol stations will remain open, but hairdressers will be forced to close completely.
All schooling will now return to remote learning and childcare only open for essential workers. Golf and fishing are banned again. Abbitors and construction will operate a reduced capacity, manufactoring in the state will just about close completely.
The Path to Disaster
Dan Andrews or Dictator/Chairman Dan as he has become known has consistently blamed complacent Victorians for causing the state’s second wave. This is despite it being crystal clear it has been his government’s own incompetence that has helped the virus spread out into the community.
Andrews launched a judicial inquiry into Melbourne’s hotel quarantine breaches by private security contractors though he, his ministers, and public servants have not been called to give evidence. 60 minutes expose airs tonight on the breaches giving first-hand accounts of some of the more outrageous breaches that have already been reported on.
Despite Andrews and Victoria Police enforcing such a harsh stage 3 lockdown during the first wave they turned a blind eye to the Black Lives Matter protest in Melbourne and the subsequent other refugee and climate protests it triggered.
With community transmission much higher during Victoria’s second wave the state’s Department of Health and Human Services contact traces failed to keep up. Victoria Police also failed to properly check that people who tested positive and had to isolate were given it was revealed on Friday that 1 in 4 positive cases were not at home.
Andrews and the media have blamed and doxxed so called virus deniers and anti-maskers for the virus spreading and harsher measure being needed. This is despite there being zero evidence that anti-lockdown pro-freedom activists have either tested positive or infected others.
Then there is the tragic scandal that the virus has been able to infect health and age care facilitates due to workers acquiring the virus in the community and personal protective equipment not being compulsory until face coverings were mandated for ordinary people.
The age care outbreaks have resulted in families who have already been barred from seeing their loved ones not being informed that they’ve been infected with coronavirus, some have not even had the opportunity to say a proper goodby to loved ones who have based.
The World Wide Second Wave
This second wave of new active coronavirus infections and deaths is now sweeping the world. The solution by governments in every country apart from the Nordic nations is to reimpose lockdowns and mandate face coverings in public. The city of Leicester and Greater Manchester are back in lockdown with the UK Government to mandate face coverings from August 8.
The first wave of lockdowns has already had a devastating effect on jobs, businesses, national economies, personal relationships and mental health. In an effort to save lives from coronavirus very little consideration has been given to increases in lives lost to suicides, family violence and cancer during the lockdown.
The herd immunity public health approach has only been taken by Nordic nations such as Sweden which although had a deadly first wave with no lockdowns has seen its death rate consistently decrease. Here in Victoria 101 have died in this second wave as opposed to 22 in the first wave.
The other Eastern Australian states are on coronavirus high alert after recording community transmissions. Western Australia and New Zealand appear to have achieved elimination of the virus but that can only hold if they keep their borders closed forever.
Changing Contradictory Advice
Throughout both waves we have been told we must live in a new normal, the pandemic won’t end until a vaccine is found. Seven months into this pandemic there is no significant progress that would see one rolled out anytime before years end.
The constant changing contractionary information from governments, medical experts, and the media during the pandemic has sown ever further public distrust in our so-called leaders. This was no more evident than the change in advice around masks. The initial advice was that it was wasteful and unnecessary for healthy people to wear masks. Now if you don’t wear a mask in public you are putting others at risk and can be spreading the virus.
We also have seen the consistent suppression of information about the benefits of treating coronavirus patients with the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine. This appears to be for no other reason other than President Trump has spoken highly of it and is taking it. Last week all mainstream social media networks censored a press conference by a group called America’s Frontline Doctors speaking about the benefits of hydroxychloroquine.
Dan Andrews said today that the harsher six-week state of disaster lockdown will crush the coronavirus curve quicker in the hope that there will be extremely short term pain for quicker recovery and reopening.
The lockdown hasn’t worked so far, the state government has failed to quarentine the sick, the virus not being under human control based on the numbers appears to be simply unstoppable and that the only likely end to the pandemic is if the coronvirus runs its cause like previous virus have done that ravaged the world in a pandemic.
We cannot live in this state of lockdown for much longer, governments will soon run out of money and the trust of the people, more businesses will go bust, more jobs and careers will be destroyed, more people’s futures will have lifelong scars. A half-life is not enough, if the virus continues to infect people then it will be clear the same lockdown medicine is not the curve cure and is bad medicine.
