During his Presidential campaign, Donald Trump presented himself as an outsider, who vowed to destroy the political establishment or ‘drain the swamp’ as he called it. This message resonated with the American people who had felt disenfranchised for so many years. So far, he has not let his supporters down, taking steps to implement every election commitment he made.

However, anybody who thought the battle was won when Trump won the Presidency was seriously naïve. If anybody thought the political establishment would just roll over and cede their power and control that was a grave political misjudgement. The events of the past week have shown that the so called deep state is determined to get Trump to bend to their will and adhere to their desired political positions. Trump, to his tremendous credit, is refusing to submit, as a result the deep state is trying to bring about his downfall.

What is the deep state? It is the phrase that has emerged over the past few days, it refers to a long held theory that in the United States there appears to be a state within a state. That includes the Federal bureaucracy, the intelligence community and the influence of private groups such as the military-industrial complex and Wall Street.

The phrase alleges that it doesn’t matter which side of politics is in power, it is the deep state who determines national policy. Credit should go to alternative news sites such as Breitbart and InfoWars who have brought this phrase to the attention of the American people.

This week’s events stem from the fact that the intelligence community is incensed with Trump’s perfectly reasonable policy of wanting to have positive relations with Russia. They view this as a threat to their vested interests and therefore are trying to sabotage Trump’s Presidency.

It began this week with the forced resignation of Trump’s National Security Advisor Michael Flynn thanks to an intelligence leak which revealed he had misled the Vice President over a conversation he had with the Russian Ambassador where he denied that sanctions against Russia had been discussed. It was a resignation for a technical breach of protocol rather than a major scandal.

Then the next day a story appeared in the New York Times alleging that the Trump campaign team had been in phone conversation with members of the Russian intelligence community. This was from another intelligence leak which was designed to further the conspiracy theory that Trump is somehow compromised by Russia.

Trump’s enemies in the neoconservative press such as Evan McMullin and Bill Kristol have defended the leaks by the intelligence community making the extraordinary claim that they have the right to defy a President if they believe he is assisting an adversary of the United States. I thought it was the elected President who made the decisions about who the enemies of the United States were?

Trump came out swinging against the media and the intelligence community, both through a series of tweets and in his latest White House press conference. He defended his former National Security Advisor saying it was ‘really a sad thing that he was treated so badly.’ He slammed the mainstream press for their constant coverage of alleged chaos in his Administration “I turn on the TV, open the newspapers, and I see stories of chaos. Chaos,”. He also vowed to crack down on intelligence leaks stating on Twitter “The spotlight has finally been put on the low-life leakers! They will be caught!’

It is still very likely that congressional Democrats along with neoconservative Republicans will hold an inquiry into the alleged Russian hacking of the election at the very least. Democrats will do this as they want to drag Trump down by any means necessary, neoconservatives are doing this because they need to continue the narrative that Russia is the new great Satan which the glorious American empire must fight to keep the world safe.

Trump is putting his Presidency and potentially his life on the line in this battle with the deep state. It shows that he did not campaign to become President because he was power hungry, but because he wanted to do the right thing by the American people no matter how difficult it is. If he was indeed power-hungry, he would’ve caved in to the neoconservatives as soon as he stepped inside the White House. We have never had a President like this and we are all hoping and praying Trump can once and for all, destroy the vested interests in the United States government.

He is having to fight the mainstream media, the bureaucracy and the establishment politicians to get his agenda implemented, it is a monumental challenge. But Trump has the tenacity to beat them all, he has defied everyone’s expectations for the past two years. If anyone can handle this challenge, it is Trump.
