Energy gridlock has seen Australia on the brink of power blackouts this winter. How has our electricity supply come to this? Joining me on this week’s WilmsFront to explain our crippled energy market is Alan Moran Principal at Regulation Economics.
Alan explains that the subsidies for renewable energy generation that is leading to ever-increasing electricity bills. The costs of these subsidies are paid for by consumers as a hidden surcharge on their bills. Alan believes that even if nuclear power generation was to be permitted it could not compete with renewable subsidies. He is not convinced that more batteries to store solar and wind are the solution that will increase reliability and decrease the cost to consumers.
