Jacinda Ardern is removing from her COVID-19 Public Health Response Act the power to enact lockdowns and vaccine mandates. Two non-government reports released this week criticized Australia’s pandemic response, particularly the regular use of lockdowns and border closures, and that the health and education of young people weren’t properly considered. The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has been on the defensive over a joint ABC/SMH report which calculated that $8 billion a year in taxpayers’ Medicare funds are being wasted.

After being expelled from the Labour Party for bringing the party into disrepute after making bullying accusations Dr Guarva Sharma has resigned as the Member for Hamilton West triggering a by-election on December 10. He plans to start a new “centrist” party, there are grumblings from the far left that he is connected with Hindutva extremists/nationalists.

NZ’s annual inflation rate is still running at 7.2% (down from 7.3% last quarter). There are now 7% mortgage rates in NZ, with 1 year rates about to hit 6%. Albanese’s Treasurer Jim Chalmers will deliver his mini budget on October 25 and will include Jacinda’s wellbeing measurement. NZ’s interest rate is 3.5% while Australia’s is 2.6%.

With Dan Andrews ahead in the polls for the Victorian state election on November 26, in order to stop Dan from being re-elected as Premier high profile challengers are attempting to unseat him in his own seat of Mulgrave. Liberal candidate hairdresser Michael Piastrino apologised for vowing in an interview with Real Rukshan that Dan Andrews would be brought to justice for the murder of 800 people. Ian Cook whose business Dan’s CHO Brett Sutton shut down after a mysterious slug was discovered in his kitchen is running as an independent.

While rainfall and flooding continue in Victoria the Bureau of Meteorology wanted the media to call them the Bureau instead of the BOM as part of the $220,000 rebranding exercise. SES volunteers in Victoria are still subjected to covid jab mandate.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced that Australia would revert back to recognizing Tel Aviv as Israel’s capital. The Morrison Government recognized West Jerusalem as the capital though the embassy was never moved from Tel Aviv. The Liberals have accused Labor of caving into the anti-Zionist left. All the seats with large numbers of Jewish voters at the federal election in Sydney and Melbourne were won by Labor and the Teals. Hezbollah supports the change in embassy policy.

The Jury in the trial of Bruce Lehrmann accused of raping former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins has not yet reached a verdict. A significant revelation during the trial was before Higgins went public with her allegation in an interview with Lisa Wilkinson she was approached by her husband Peter Fitzsimons who wanted to sign her to a book deal. The evidence from both sides during the trial has largely been he said she said with holes in both their stories.

Victorian Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe has resigned as Greens Deputy Senate Leader after the revelation she had a secret affair with Rebels bikie boss Dean Martin while on Parliament’s Law Enforcement Committee. Thorpe was seeing Gavan McFadzean of the Australian Conservation Foundation at the time who had no idea he was cheated on.

Australia’s Netball players, Men’s Cricket Captain Pat Cummins along with several Fremantle Dockers personalities including Brownlow medalist Nate Fyfe do not want to wear mining companies’ sponsors on their sporting guernseys.
