As we reflect on Queen Elizabeth’s service we ponder how King Charles will reign given his climate change and social justice activism. The rock and unifying figure of the UK will not be present as the nation enters a dark winter with an energy shortage and cost of living crisis. The nation also has a new Prime Minister Liz Truss along with no white men in any of the Great Offices of the Cabinet.
Coming into effect today in Australia is the mandatory covid isolation period has been reduced from 7 to 5 days and masks are no longer mandatory on planes. NZ is still at the orange traffic light with a review on Monday as mask compliance has further decreased. The NZ Government has not apologized for smearing those it blamed for the Northland lockdown. Australia’s Parliament will hold an inquiry into long covid, an investigation by Harvard researchers has found those who were highly stressed, anxious, lonely, or depressed before catching covid are more likely to report long covid.
Diuewe attended the NZ Forum on the Family which was a call to action for Christian activists to take a stronger stance in political contests. Greens Leader Adam Bandt and his Deputy Mehreen Maruqi issued classless tweets about the death of the Queen pushing for a Republic and more First Nations’ rights. With the RBA raising interest rates to 2.35% the Greens are calling for both an interest rate freeze and rent control. Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and Bandt’s wife wore AOC-inspired dresses to Parliament’s mid-winter ball against coal and gas.
Dan Andrews dumped a report that found that 33 Victorians died because of Triple Zero failures on footy finals day. He did not front the media until Tuesday and blamed the pandemic for these deaths even though the Triple Zero failures predate the pandemic. The former Triple Zero chair claims he was pressed to resign in 2015 for asking for a new funding model. But Ambulance Victoria still found $760,000 to spend on diversity and inclusion officers. In NZ 3400 people are walking out of emergency departments every month with some having to wait more than 24 hours to receive treatment.
