Jacinda Ardern announced that from midnight tonight outdoor gathering limits will be abolished and on April 4 vaccine passports will be abolished, but indoor mask mandates remain. In Australia from April 17 a pre-departure covid test to travel into Australians will no longer be required, international cruise lines can resume trade in Australia, however, travelers arriving in and departing from Australia will still need to be double vaccinated.

The Australian Government is proposing new laws to combat online ‘misinformation’ and ‘disinformation’ by empowering the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to request social media companies hand over information about the perpetrators of ‘harmful content’. The Labor Party has parachuted another party hack into a safe multicultural seat with former Economics Advisor Andrew Charlton their candidate for the federal seat of Parramatta. Australia has been caught off guard with the Solomon Islands signing a security agreement with the People’s Republic of China which could see their military bases 2000km from Australia.

In the Minority Party Report section of the show, the Liberal Democratic Party of Australia will be forced to change its name following a High Court ruling on new electoral laws passed by the Liberal Government. Outgoing Liberal Democrats staffer Kirsty O’Sullivan sent out an email to the entire party list outlining her grievances against the party leadership. United Australia Party President Clive Palmer who is unvaccinated has recovered from covid with a cocktail of anti-virals including Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin administered by a team of doctors.

In the sex scandals section of the show, former NSW Liberal Family and Child Services Minister Gareth Ward has been charged by NSW Police with the sexual assault of a man and a 17-year-old boy. Hillsong Church founder Brian Houston has stepped down as church leader after allegations of inappropriate behavior toward two women.

Universities Australia released the results of their National Student Safety Survey whose findings were only made up of sampled students who chose to respond. Not surprisingly then it found 1 in 6 responders claimed they had been sexually harassed since starting university and 1 in 20 claimed they had been sexually assaulted since starting university. In Auckland, a group of high school students is lobbying for gender-neutral bathrooms to be made compulsory in all schools.

Although not a Tasman news issue Stephen discusses the case of a Northern Irish woman who decided not to have an abortion after receiving help from pro-life volunteers outside an abortion clinic is supporting a bill that would criminalize such help outside abortion clinics in Northern Ireland.
