Trump orders walls and shuts down sanctuary cities.

President Trump’s key election promise and most popular policy, a border wall with Mexico, has taken its first big step today with the signing of an executive order. Another executive order was signed which denies federal funding to so-called ‘sanctuary cities’, jurisdictions that fail to enforce immigration law.
In an executive order (EO) titled ‘Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements’ President Trump orders the Secretary of Homeland Security ‘to immediately plan, design, and construct a physical wall along the southern border, using appropriate materials and technology to most effectively achieve complete operational control of the southern border.’
The EO also orders the construction of detention facilities, the hiring of additional border guards, and the heads of each government department to ‘identify and quantify all sources of direct and indirect Federal aid or assistance to the Government of Mexico ‘
In an EO titled ‘Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States’ the President ordered that any jurisdiction not complying with federal immigration law be denied federal grants except where they are required by law or specifically for law enforcement purposes at the Secretary’s discretion.
The EO also orders that state and local law enforcement perform the functions of immigration officers, as well as the hiring of 10,000 additional immigration enforcement officers federally.
With the stroke of a pen Donald Trump has done exactly what Republicans were demanding of Obama for his eight year tenure. With another stroke he fulfills a key election promise making clear to all his supporters that he meant what he said. Not even a week after being sworn in he has proven himself to be more honest than most politicians in the world.
