Last year in the United States we saw the demise of the power of the mainstream media. Despite all their campaigning for Hillary Clinton and covering up of her scandals, Donald Trump was still able to win the election. This is because of the rise of alternative media websites such as Breitbart, Infowars, Drudge Report and the Daily Caller as well as Trump’s ability to get his message out directly to the people via Twitter and other social media platforms. Though the rise of alternative media in 2016 didn’t happen suddenly, the groundwork had started being laid almost 20 years ago, when the internet first was available.
In Australia, however, the mainstream media still has a stranglehold over the Australian people. Most Australians still get their news from the major corporations who filter it to their liking, alternative media sources are hard to come by. The Unshackled and our friends are trying to change this, but we have only been around for a short space of time making it difficult to catch up to the level of the United States. The left in Australia have easily been better at using the power of the internet to shape public opinion with their sites such as Crikey, Junkee, New Matilda and Mamamia to name a few.
Though that maybe about to change with the founding this week of Mark Latham’s Outsiders on Facebook. This follows his sacking from Sky News last week for triggering one too many people (which he was hired to do it should be noted) resulting in Sky caving into the leftist outrage machine. It should confirm in everyone’s mind that corporate media cannot be relied upon to deliver real honest news and opinions which the left does not like.
Sky News is owned by News Corp Australia which is supposed to be a conservative news organisation, yet we learned they are only willing to go so far in pushing the conservative viewpoint. It is not the first time they have acted in this way as The Australian sacked Glenn Milne because he triggered Julia Gillard by discussing her alleged involvement in AWU slush fund scandal. 2GB another conservative media outlet also buckled under pressure by sacking Michael Smith as a contributor by talking about the Prophet Mohammed’s marriage to a seven-year-old girl.
Latham has only published two posts and one video so far on his new Facebook page but based on those it is clear Latham, now free of the shackles of the corporate media will be 100% unfiltered. He promises ‘Here at Outsiders you are getting Mark Latham unfiltered – no PC, no sucking up to vested interests, no fear of speaking the truth’ adding ‘I refuse to be silenced, I refuse to surrender to the manufactured outrage industry and the militant Gay-Left Stalinists that have overwhelmed the Mainstream Media’.
So far, the alternative media outlets in Australia have been founded by ordinary concerned citizens who are just starting out in the news business. But now with a person with as high a profile as Mark Latham entering the field this will give the alternative media outlet the boost it needs to finally start taking on the power and influence the mainstream media still enjoys in Australia.
It is because of the mainstream media that we have Malcolm Turnbull as Prime Minister and a far-left Labor opposition. It is why Pauline Hanson and One Nation is constantly demonised and has contributed to the climate of intimidation the left perpetrates on those with different opinions. It leaves ordinary Australians without a voice and as a result this is why our politicians adhere religiously to political correctness and social justice virtue signalling.
Mark Latham’s Outsiders aims to become a fully fledged media organisation with a website coming soon, various news programs and will offer memberships to support the operation. This just might be the beginning of the end of the mainstream media. We are certainly grateful in Australia to have a person such as Mark Latham who will not be silenced by anyone, he could easily retreat to quiet life but instead is willing to incur the left’s abuse and harassment to give ordinary Australians a voice. We cannot wait to hear more from Mark Latham’s Outsiders.
