Five people have been killed after gunmen opened fire during evening prayers at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec.  There was up to forty people in the mosque at the time of the shooting, several people have also been injured during the attack.

A witness has told reporters from Reuters that there were three shooters, this has not been confirmed by authorities.  Radio Canada is reporting two arrests as police have set up a large security cordon around the site. One of the arrested was brandishing an AK-47 assault rifle according to Le Soleil.  Reuters is also reporting that one of the attackers is 27-years-old.

One witness told Radio Canada that one of the attackers yelled out “Allahu Akbar.”

Heavily armed police have entered the building, with police spokesman Etienne Doyon declining to say if their was a shooter still holed up in the building.

The number of injured people is believed to be significant but no numbers have been provided at this stage, the injured have been rushed to multiple hospitals across the city.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has spoken on the shooting “Canadians grieve for those killed in a cowardly attack on a mosque in Quebec City.”
