Sam Dastyari is back to being his virtue signalling self only five months after he was forced to resign from the Labor frontbench. This was after it was revealed he got a Chinese company to pay for an overspend on his travel allowance. It was also revealed subsequently that he had received other donations from Chinese linked companies and had previously voiced public support for China’s territorial claim in the South China Sea against Labor policy.

Dastyari had been lying low since then and taken his time in exile to write a book which will be released later this year. But now it seems that he and Labor believe that the public had forgotten his scandal so when parliament resumed this week they snuck him back to a position of authority as deputy opposition whip in the Senate.

Not only is he back on the frontbench but has burst back into the media spotlight. He has done this by railing against the extreme right as he would call them. This was done two weeks ago when he decried President Donald Trump’s travel ban from seven countries to the United States. He then claimed that he might not be allowed into the United States by hinting that he had not renounced his Iranian citizenship which would have made him ineligible to sit in Federal Parliament. But of course, it was all about getting attention for Sam.

He also expressed his horror over the taking down of the Muslim Australia Day billboard, promoting the fundraising drive to get the billboard back up, claiming opponents of it were attacking innocent young girls.

This week he took his virtue signalling and claim to the moral high ground to the next level being triggered by pretty much everything prominent right wing politicians did. He was outraged when Pauline Hanson said she admired Russian President Vladimir Putin and even confronted her outside Parliament House bringing up the fact that Russian backed rebels in Ukraine had accidentally shot down MH17 killing 38 Australians.

Of course Putin is a very flawed leader, although he has brought more stability to the Middle East than the United States has over the past decade. It should also be added it is better for  global security for the west to have good relations with Russia as the Trump Administration is trying to achieve. He is popular with the Russian people and only looks after their interests which was Pauline’s point. It would appear because many on the right are fans of Putin, it is the reason why Sam is against him as we hardly see him outraged by the various despots in the Middle East and Africa, that is not even mentioning his views on China.

Sam was also triggered by the Q Society fundraiser in Sydney on Thursday night by the speeches of Ross Cameron and Larry Pickering. He wrote a letter to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull demanding he bar Coalition MP George Christensen from speaking at Melbourne Q Society fundraiser due to what he viewed was the Islamophobia and homophobia of the organisation.

Also, this week in Senate he got high and mighty on the favourite issue of progressives same-sex marriage, asking how can we deny same sex couples the right to marry when we make a mockery of marriage with the show ‘Married At First Sight’.

Then in another speech he said that old rich white men were the political establishment who needed to be thrown out, which is a racist and sexist statement.

Sam has clearly hoodwinked the progressive activists who have lapped up his actions this week, just read the comments on his Facebook page. The rest of us are not so easily fooled and see his week of being triggered as merely a way to cynically rebuild his political profile so he can be a hero in the eyes of the media and the elites and of course further his political career.

But most importantly his political views are ones that would damage Australia. We do not need more Islamization of Australia, we do not need to pick fights with major powers such as Russia and we do not need more identity politics. Best way to counter Sam’s irritating influence is to give him the mockery he deserves and call out his hypocrisies. He has quickly risen to become a subject of ridicule for many Australians.
