The Unshackled was back with another election night livestream for the South Australia state election and Batman by-election on Saturday 17th March 2018. It was broadcast live on our Facebook page beginning at 6pm AEDT and continued until 11pm AEDT after the concession and victory speeches had been given in South Australia. This is an edited version of the livestream on our YouTube channel.
Part of the panel throughout the evening was Editor in Chief of The Unshackled Tim Wilms, Chief Correspondent Steele Archer and Unshackled Contributor Michael Smyth commenting on the results as they came in and offering analysis on the likely political implications.
In South Australia it was sold as a three cornered contest between the Labor Government, the Liberal Opposition and Nick Xenophon’s SA Best. But the Liberals won an outright majority on election night ending 16 years of Labor rule with SA Best not looking likely to win a lower house seat at all and Nick Xenophon failing to win his own seat of Hartley. In the inner Melbourne federal electorate of Batman Labor’s star candidate ACTU President Ged Kearney won an upset victory against a divided Green Party.
The Unshackled will next cover the Victorian election in November 2018 and as well as a possible federal election. We also plan to go live more often to comment on news as it breaks and better connect with our followers.
