Show Description
After a brief discussion about the growth of Halloween in Australia, we turn to the Queensland election results. It was pretty clear from the early numbers that the Palaszczuk Labor Government would be returned.
We are joined later in the stream by Gary from local conservative activist group Rite-On who’ve been assisting Queensland voters with their own How to Vote cards based on their key campaign issues. Ben Shand the Dusty Bogan joins us briefly, he has been volunteering for Sharon Bell of One Nation who was standing in the seat of Bundamba near Ipswich.
The Greens unseated former Deputy Premier Jackie Trad in South Brisbane, One Nation has a 6% swing against them but retained their sole seat. The Katter Party retained all three of their Central North Queensland seats. LNP Leader Deb Frecklington mediocre campaign with hardly much policy differentiation from Labor made the end result hardly a shock.
Many of Barclay’s Facebook trolls joined in on the stream and event sent through some superchats. Barclay’s mate Jake Scott had been campaigning for the LNP candidate for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley until negative media coverage forced Jake from the volunteer team.
So far the 2020 covid-age of elections it has been a clean sweep for left-wing incumbent governments in the NT, ACT, New Zealand and now Queensland. The most consequential election of 2020 is coming up in a few days, the US Presidential Election. Donald Trump is trailing in all the polls against Joe Biden but Trump can still win the Electoral College. Alexandra will be attending CPAC Australia in Sydney on US Election Day.
