‘I quit’.... John Alexander announces his resignation today.

John Alexander, the Liberal Member for Bennelong, has announced he is resigning from the House of Representatives. In addition to Barnarby Joyce who has been ruled to have not been elected, this leaves the Coalition Government with only 74 seats out of 148. Prior to today, Cathy McGowan, the Independent Member for Indi, confirmed that she would continue to provide confidence and supply, but this may no longer remain the case.

In addition to Senators Fiona Nash (NAT), Stephen Parry (LIB), Scott Ludlam (GRN), Larissa Waters (GRN), and Malcolm Roberts (ONP) being found ineligible this whole citizenship debacle is now sufficient to bring down the Government. With the Opposition Leader Bill Shorten refusing to release documents on Labor MPs who have questions lingering over their heads, it would be prudent for the Governor-General to advise a full election for both Houses in the New Year if constitutionally permissible. It is apparent that many politicians have been signing false declarations for years.

It is impossible to sign the declaration for parliamentary nomination and be unaware of the law. Nor is it reasonable possible to not be aware of your position as Barnaby Joyce and others have claimed. We all know where our parents were born. It is reasonable to say then, that all involved should be thrown out of Parliament forever with no entitlements.
