Donald Trump has said he will ban transgender individuals from serving in the US military “in any capacity”. The President announced this decision using three tweets:

“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you”.

In a decision that is bound to trigger backlash and outrage in the left, Trump has made a decision to ban those whose continued presence in the military results in a waste of time, money, and other resources.

Last year, after the Pentagon announced it would allow transgender individuals to serve openly in the military, the policy also included the Pentagon covering the expenses of transgender individuals to undergo medical procedures in transitioning. This is because these costs were “deemed necessary”.

It must be made clear the Trump has banned transgender people due to the cost associated with having them in the military, costs that are paid for by the taxpayer and that could be used for more important purposes.

According to the data, about 2500 service members in the military and 1500 in the reserves are transgender.

Celebrities has now started to line up displaying their outrage of a clearly rational and logical policy. Caitlyn Jenner made reference to Trump’s tweet promising he would fight for LGBT people and their rights, despite the fact that this does not mean Trump is doing something anti-LGBT. It is the LGBT people who are at fault by irrationally wanting equality on every single facet of life and society in the first place.

It is unclear how the President will implement this ban. It is likely he will have to pass legislation through Congress rather than make an executive order, which will lead to further turbulence surrounding this issue.
