FACT CHECK: Did Mike Pence support conversion therapy? No.
Mike Pence, soon to be Vice President of the United States, has increasingly come under attack for allegedly supporting conversion therapy for homosexuals. The left and the media have undertaken a mini-crusade against Pence by pushing this rumour as a desperate attempt to fuel the mass anti-Trump hysteria currently sweeping through the country. However, close investigation of the source of this rumour shows just how far this false accusation against Pence has gone, and just how much it has been exaggerated and sensationalised.
According to ‘Being Libertarian’, this rumour gained popularity through Gavin Newsom’s article in The Daily Beast accusing Pence of supporting child abuse and torture through his alleged support of conversion therapy. Apparently, conversion therapy is the same thing as the “abuse” and “torture’ involved with electric shock therapy, mental and supernatural exercises don’t count. This fearmongering by the left took a climax when, lo and behold, PolitiFact ignorantly labelled this rumour as “True”. Yet again, PolitiFact, and the mainstream media, took up their role as left-wing propaganda machines by using the following statements to arrive at their conclusion:
“Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behaviour.”
Through the use of left-wing logic, Pence’s proposal to divert funding from organisations that contribute to the “spreading of the HIV virus” to “institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behaviour” is now equal to saying “I support electric shock therapy for gays”. Changing sexual behaviour is not the same thing as changing sexual orientation. An example of the former could include practicing safer sex, refraining from anal sex or being less promiscuous. If a person thinks this is the same as electro shock therapy then he probably requires electro shock therapy himself. As for removing funding from particular organisations promoting HIV transmissions, it is quite obvious for anyone gifted with a human brain to avoid equating this with a supposed plan to shut down LGBT clinics or counselling services.
As for conversion therapy, this is a classic topic portraying the ironic characteristics of the left. They support gay rights and sexual freedoms to such an extent that the left is pushing radical sexual ideas to children in order brainwash them as a response to a few gays being triggered when hearing conflicting perspectives. However, they are against a person’s freedom to choose his sexuality by willingly participating in gay conversion therapy. Freedom to brainwash kids is fine, but freedom to choose your own life path is not. Freedom is great as long as people aren’t able to choose medical treatment that is too triggering.
The real problem here is an organisation calling itself “PolitiFact” continues to openly mislead the public and fuel unjustified public hysteria. According to this “fact-checking website”, wanting to fund organisations promoting safer sex is the same thing as wanting to force gays into conversion therapy. And the public is being misled about their new Vice President, as well as their President-Elect. Just for the record, even if Pence supported conversion therapy and electro shock therapy, so what? It’s perfectly fine to believe that such processes work, and it’s more than fine to support a person’s freedom to choose their sexuality. But the cultural Marxists, who want to engineer society and destroy Western civilisation, are more than triggered by this. It looks like these left-wing propaganda machines still haven’t stopped the exact same thing that contributed to Trump’s election: spreading lies.
