Show Description
On this week’s review show we are joined by Co-Editor in Chief of The Unshackled Sukith Fernando. We begin by reflecting on our time at The 5th Annual Australian Libertarian Society Friedman Conference in Sydney this past weekend. We discuss some of the highlights which along with spreading the word about The Unshackled we met some fans or ours, heard same great speakers, met some stars of the right and also some fellow alt-media figures.
We then turn back to Australian politics where education funding dominated the discussion this week. There were two announcements by the Turnbull government in this field, the first was an increasing in university fees and a lowering of the repayment threshold which was welcome news to those who question the value of university. We then discuss ‘Gonski 2.0’ school funding which will redistribute increases in education funding to government schools at the expense of independent schools. We then explain why the perception that more education funding is always good is not correct when there are other problems within our education system.
We also comment on the news that Fairfax Media announced they would axing 125 editorial staff or a quarter of their newsrooms. Obviously people losing their jobs is never pleasant but we point out that maybe if Fairfax didn’t push a leftist agenda, sneer at the Australian people and peddle fake news this would not have happened. We state this is probably the beginning of the death of Australia’s mainstream media as more people look for alternative sources which better represent them such as The Unshackled and our friends.
We finish by commenting on the latest disgrace at the Australian Human Rights Commission. This time it’s Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins demanding that government contractors employ 40% woman. We highlight that quotas do not lead to the best person for the job being employed and can actually lead to more prejudice towards women in the workforce. We finish by commenting the ludicrous nature of the Commission President Gillian Triggs receiving a free speech award by a group calling themselves Liberty Victoria.
