As Omicron cases dip government mandates continue to rise. This has led to a surge in opposition to pandemic restrictions continuing into their third year led by the Canadian Truckers Convoy. On tonight’s Tim’s News Explosion I look at the push for a return to tradition and normality.
After the Australian Open Melbourne is considering a bid for the 2026 Commonwealth Games to showcase the city’s return. Premier Dan Andrews might not be the lockdown king any more but wants to be the vaccine mandate king pushing for 3 doses to be deemed fully vaccinated. Eastern Australia’s current living with covid approach riding the Omicron wave has been driven by a weird bromance between Dan and NSW Premier Dom Perrottet.
Scott Morrison has begun the unofficial election campaign pledging $1 billion over 10 years to save the Great Barrier Reef and $50 million to help save Koalas. The latest NewsPoll has the Coalition behind Labor 44-56 TPP and Morrison just ahead of Albo as preferred PM 43 to 41.

The various provinces of Canada introduced severe gathering and business restrictions over Christmas and New Year in response to Omicron. Discrimination against the unvaccinated has increased in Quebec if they are shopping for essentials a health warden from the shop must escort them throughout the shop to make sure they don’t buy anything not deemed essential.

After calling the truckers a fringe minority with unacceptable views Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau felt the capital and is presumably in disguise in blackface. Trudeau’s government had war-gamed shredding documents in the event of a “January 6” storming of the parliament but the truckers’ convoy in Ottawa has been 100% peaceful.
$6.7 billion was raised for the truckers via GoFundMe. An Australian Convoy to Canberra planned for this week had $160,000 in crowdfunding suspended by GoFundMe.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky former a comedian was super serious in telling the Western media not to create panic about a pending Russian invasion. Australian Defence Minister described Vladimir Putin as an increasingly irrational and aging dictator. Russian Ambassador to Australia Dr Alexey Pavlovsky responded that “Australians definitely are entitled to a more meaningful understanding of the situation than comic book style propaganda like Batman versus Joker”.
Joe Rogan has survived a deplatforming attempt from boomer musician Neil Young who vowed he would remove his music from Spotify unless Rogan’s podcast was removed. Spotify removed Young’s music for him as well as Joni Mitchell who also joined Young’s campaign. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stated they decried covid misinformation but won’t cancel their own Spotify podcast contract.
