A series of explosions have rocked churches and high-end hotels in Sri Lanka on Sunday morning. It’s clear that the attack was on Christian Churches including St Sebastian’s in Katuwapitiya, an evangelical church in Batticaloa, and at St Anthony’s Shrine in central Colombo.

As Far As We Know:
At least 290 are confirmed murdered and at least 450 are injured from the eight separate coordinated terror attacks against Christians. Among the dead are thirty-five foreigners, three police offices.
Update: Twenty-four people have been reported to have been arrested so far.

- Documents seen by AF0P show that Sri Lanka’s police chief Pujuth Jayasundara issued an intelligence alert to top officers 10 days ago, warning that suicide bombers planned to hit “prominent churches”.
- “A foreign intelligence agency has reported that the NTJ (National Thowheeth Jama’ath) is planning to carry out suicide attacks targeting prominent churches as well as the Indian high commission in Colombo,” the alert said.
- The NTJ is a radical Muslim group in Sri Lanka that was linked last year to the vandalisation of Buddhist statues.

The military had been deployed, according to a military spokesman, and security stepped up at Colombo’s international airport.

“Security tightened. Please stay calm. Please act responsibly. Please, no politics. We must all act together as Sri Lanka citizens. My condolences to all families who lost loved ones.”
