Facebook Blackout- The Case for Platform Diversity

blank

With Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp having gone down over
the course of the week, we are forced to contemplate, is society too addicted
to these big social media platforms? The answer is yes. Yes.

Governments, corporations and individuals rely on these
platforms to communicate with customers, just as individuals rely on these to
communicate with each other.   This gives
Mark Zuckerberg and his fellow tech overlord class a lot of power, but also a
huge responsibility to – get it right.

Without these platforms functioning properly (forget the Orwellian
tactics they use to shut down even mildly conservative speech), social chaos ensues.

Governments can’t communicate essential emergency warnings
(weather, health, travel etc.…) to its subscribers, and the private sector
mostly grinds to a halt. When this happens, we have to point out that its time
that customers and users Facebook, Twitter and YouTube at least have a look at
other options around the internet.

The other idea is this one of censorship. Its true that
everyone must tip toe around a whole forest of free speech laws which have been
set up in order to stop free speech on these platforms. Its time that we the
mass consumer have a browse around the internet for alternative platforms.

These are some great platforms and worth exploring. Make
sure you share this article with your friends and family so that they know there
are alternatives out there, and you won’t get caught out when these platforms
faulter inevitably again.

It’s time to get off the big platforms and start exploring
alternative platforms or run the risk of giving over the whole society to a few
US billionaires who will be able to dictate your society from the United
States.
