Sport was once an outlet ordinary people used to get away from the more complex issues in life and society, and relax and enjoy elite athletes and players put on incredible and breathtaking performances. For us who follow and are involved in politics, we always liked sport because it was traditionally politics free and it was where we could all put aside our differences with others and just watch the entertainment.

Sadly, those days are gone, because sport, like other cultural institutions has been captured by the left and are used to promote politically correct and social justice causes. The worst offender has always been the AFL. They have made several rounds during their Premiership season diversity themed rounds. There is the Indigenous round, multicultural round and there was previously a women’s round and even a green round.

Last year they took it a step further with a gay pride match between St Kilda and the Sydney Swans at Etihad Stadium where the goal umpires waved rainbow goal flags and both teams added the rainbow to their outfits. The AFL is already a pledged support of so called ‘marriage equality’ so it is clear that this match is not just about inclusion but pushing a political agenda which is inappropriate for a sport which would have supporters across the political spectrum and many families attending.

The push for the AFL to embrace the LGBT agenda has been mainly pushed by amateur AFL footballer Jason Ball who claims to be the first openly gay footballer. He is not just an ordinary bloke but a far-left activist who ran as the Greens candidate for the inner-city Melbourne seat of Higgins. An example of his extreme political views is that he called the existence of the Apex gang fake news.

But of course as we know with the LGBT activists they always want more and they want their own gay pride round. Well they will be having a second pride match this weekend when Essendon takes on West Coast at Etihad Stadium. Essendon has named it their Red and Black Pride Game and are wearing rainbow jumpers at training this week and will run through an LGBT banner on match day organised by their LGBT supporters group the Purple Bombers.

It is all part of IDAHOBIT day which is a long acronym for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (as if we are not reminded of LGBT issues every other day of the year and in every other setting). Many AFL clubs are now setting up their own LGBT supporter groups in the name of inclusion.

Of course, everybody has the right to play AFL regardless of background, it has never been otherwise but this constant diversity push by the AFL who treat all their players and supporters as backwards dregs who need to be better educated by the elites and culture is insulting.

The same game between Essendon and West Coast will also have for the first time a female field umpire in an AFL Premiership game, another diversity box ticked for the AFL. This is fresh off them wasting fans’ money (who make the game financially viable) on the great Chinese experiment last weekend which could only muster 10,000 at the game (with many empty seats) and over half of those were travelling fans. It is also the same week when players are being told to not hurt each other’s feelings when sledging their opponents during games.

You sometimes wonder whether all these diversity campaigns by the AFL ever irritate any of the players who would rather just focus on being the best footballers they can. But perhaps all the propaganda that they are all privileged cishet (there are no gay male footballers) white men (mostly), also probably are misogynists too has caused them all to feel guilty about it and atone for it.

The AFL is just the latest group in our society to force the LGBT agenda down our throats. Big business has been virtue signalling on this for months now with of course the much derided marriage equality acceptance rings and the CEOs’ letter to the Prime Minister asking him to legislate marriage equality.

Just like the big business needs to focus on providing consumers with superior products and services the AFL needs to focus on putting on a good show for their fans and treating them with respect instead of contempt. I would encourage fans of the AFL to contact AFL House and let them know what you think about their constant virtue signalling. It would be interesting to document the amount of fans’ money the AFL has wasted over the years on these diversity programs which could have spent making a better product. Can’t we get back to the old days being able to just watch a game of football and leave other life matters at the door?
