Australian Marxists have declared their support for the rioters that have burned, looted and assaulted innocent people in the U.S. for the past week.
In Red Flag, the newspaper of Australia’s largest Marxist group Socialist Alternative, editor Daniel Taylor thanked the rioters for their acts of violence and arson and declared that “Once again, Black America has surged to the front lines of the global struggle”.
Taylor continued, writing that burning down police headquarters and storming the fences of the White House is “inspiring”, that the riots have “made the US the setting for a simultaneous, spontaneous offensive of the oppressed” and that the rioters have “shown extraordinary courage and social responsibility” by “burning cops out of their lairs”. Another Red Flag article declares that “the police are the enemies of human freedom and democracy” while yet another asks “who wouldn’t want to rage against killer cops”.
It’s clear that Marxists like Taylor and others around the world see the sickening violence and destruction of these riots as a tool to advance their own vision of a communist revolution. As Taylor says himself: “a well-timed rock through a window can trigger a riot, a well-timed riot can inspire broader and deeper upheaval”.
This becomes more significant as you notice that Marxists like the Socialist Alternative and other smaller groups in Australia are swarming to the protests that have been organised here to celebrate the U.S. riots. At an event in Perth last night, activists and signage from Marxist groups like the Socialist Alliance were prominent. Through their front group “Campaign Against Racism and Fascism”, Socialist Alternative are helping to promote a rally in support of the riots in Melbourne on Saturday.
Online Socialist Alternative are using the riots as an organising point as well. The Brisbane branch tonight will be holding a Zoom event hosted by Socialist Alternative activist (and “Uni Students for Climate Justice” spokeswoman) Priya De. Tomorrow night nearly all the other Socialist Alternative branches from Melbourne to Sydney and from Perth to Canberra will be holding another Zoom meeting. This latter event will be hosted by Socialist Alternative activist, Guardian Australia columnist (and “Uni Students for Climate Justice” co-convenor) Gavin Stanbrook.
Australian Marxists don’t really care about police procedure on the other side of the world, just as they don’t really care about climate change, or refugees, or any of the other causes they organise for. They only care about issues in as far as those campaigns will help them advance towards their ultimate goal of overthrowing the government and creating a totalitarian socialist state. And it’s about time the Australian media and public sat up and took notice of that fact.
