On our interview show this week we are joined by week is psychiatrist Dr Tanveer Ahmed, the interview was recorded in person at The Unshackled Lunch in Melbourne. Tanveer in addition to his work as a psychiatrist has also been a media commentator, presenter and columnist for over a decade. He is the author of the recently published book Fragile Nation: Vulnerability, Resilience and Victimhood which is a collection of observations from his work as a psychiatrist.
We discuss with him what led him pursue a career in psychiatry and what he sees as his ultimate goal in the profession. We also learn from him how psychiatry tells us a lot about the state of the world currently, including what the prevalence of mental health services really means, the problems key demographic groups such as refugees, Muslims and the white working class are facing and ask despite the current upheaval is the world still better than it has been in the past? We also ask him about his political activity and how his work has shaped his political views.
