Two and half years into Donald Trump’s Presidency, things are becoming quite scary in the United States. But not because Trump is the racist fascist President the left raged he is, but American progressives have become even further radicalized.

The New Democrats

The progressive takeover of the Democratic Party is just about complete, all the candidates now support reparations for black slavery that ended 150 years ago, executive action to implement gun control, massive government economic intervention to fight climate change, free college tuition and single payer healthcare.

But the most alarming aspect of this new progressive Democrat Party is their promise to dismantle the United States border security and allow anyone from anywhere to migrate to the United States.

The previous Democrat President Barack Obama did not support open borders and as his Administration deported more illegal immigrates than Trump. The Obama Administration was the architect of locking migrant children in cages which the media have falsely claimed is a Trump policy

What appears to have triggered Democrats into this new open borders position is the outrage generated was that then candidate Trump made building a southern border wall, to protect against drugs, crime and sexual assaults his central campaign promise.

But the mainstream Democrats vying to be the next President are no longer the most radical anymore. With the Democrats winning the US House of Representatives part of the new Congressional freshman class were many far-left new progressive Democrats.

The Squad

The most radical of these freshman Democrats are a group of four women of colour known as “The Squad”: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.

All of them won safe Democratic congressional seats after defeating incumbent Democrats during the party’s primary. Their election to Congress is basically due to them having a D next to their name on the ballot paper, not due to any individual achievement. As Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said herself “This glass of water would win with a D next to its name in those districts”.

The most well known member of the “The Squad” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also from the Democratic Socialists of America. She has become a constant source of mockery due to her simplistic political views and making countless fallacious statements.

When she was tripped up in an interview over a budgeting miscalculation she famously said “There’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right.”

Her most substantive contribution to Congress has been co-sponsoring the Green New Deal to fight climate change. it estimated to cost up to $93 trillion over 10 years in an effort to completely eliminate carbon emissions from the US economy during that period. Ocasio-Cortez has claimed we only have 12 years to save the planet from catastrophic climate change.

Ilhan Omar has achieved many firsts in the identity politics Olympics: she is the first Somali-American elected to Congress (she arrived in the United States as a refugee in 1992) is the first naturalized citizen from Africa elected to Congress, the first non-white woman elected from Minnesota, and one of the first two Muslim women (along with her fellow “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, however only Omar wears the hijab) elected to Congress.

Despite being an American Congresswoman she has appeared more loyal to her fellow Muslims worldwide supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against Israel. In a speech at the Council on American–Islamic Relations she said Muslim persecution in America happened because “Some people did something” in reference to the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks.

The Squad with their obsession with impeaching Trump, despite him being exonerated from the Russian collusion conspiracy in the Mueller Report, have earned the further ire of of their leader Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi in an interview last week dismissed the influence of their grouping saying “That’s like five people”. Ocasio-Cortez then accused Pelosi of racism alleging she “singling out” freshman congresswomen of color.

The Squad are also for total open borders advocating for the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) which enforce US immigration policy. They have called illegal immigration detention centres “concentration camps”, and spread fake news about detainees drinking out of the toilet.

The Squad’s opposition to immigration enforcement has been at fever pitch with ICE raids being carried out in major US cities beginning on the weekend.

Trump Attacks

Trump decided to drive a wedge into this split in the Democratic Caucus by defending Pelosi against the Squad “I think Cortez is being very disrespectful to somebody who’s been there a long time. I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine”.

Then Trump on Sunday decided to go all in against the Squad in a serious of tweets attacking them for being anti-American and suggesting they go back to their places of ancestry.

These series of tweets had the effect of ending the Pelosi-Squad division as Pelosi leapt to their defense and labelled Trump a white nationalist. His tweets were also attacked for being lacking in facts given that only Omar was born outside the United States.

International leaders felt the need to condemn Trump’s tweets even though this is a domestic political dispute. Outgoing British Prime Minister Thersea May and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern were the most high profile condemners.

But Trump stood by his tweets maintaining that members of “The Squad” were un-American.

The Squad held a press conference on Monday to respond to Trump’s tweets. First they refused to call him the President, only referred to him as the occupant of the White House.

They repeatedly called him a racist, a white nationalist who was committing human rights abuses at the border. Despite claiming they weren’t taking the bait, they reaffirmed their view that Trump should be impeached due to his “lawless” administration.

The media and Democrats were eager for other Republicans to condemn Trump’s tweets, but they weren’t taking the bait. Republican Senator Lindsay Graham who by no means is a committed Trump supporter said the Squad were a “bunch of communists, they hate Israel, they hate our own country”.

Trump last night again denied his tweets were racist, accusing the Squad of using “filthy language” and saying “horrible things”. He also listed the low approval ratings of Ocasio-Cortez and Omar.

The US House of Representatives passed a resolution overnight condemning Trump’s tweets 240-187, with 4 Republicans voting with the Democrat majority. Republicans tried to strike Nancy Pelosi’s condemnation off official record, arguing she broke a rule that states lawmakers cannot malign the character of the president when she called Trump’s tweets racist.

Trump praised his Republican House members who held the party line.

The Political Fallout

The Trump-Squad feud is currently consuming US political news. Many rational political commentators see Trump’s attack on the Squad as a positioning tactic in his 2020 re-election campaign, to tie the already far-left new Democratic Party to their most radical elected representatives.

The American voters in 2016 rejected Hillary Clinton’s campaign of identity politics, opposed an increasingly militarized totalitarian left, and voted for American patriotism, economic prosperity to protect free speech and other fundamental rights.

Progressives and Democrats have learned nothing from 2016 and are committed to offering an even more radical agenda in 2020. If Trump can keep triggering the Squad and bait formerly moderate Democrats into supporting their policy platform, he will be guaranteed a second term
