Rally Planned for Melbourne Demanding an End to Criminalising African Communities

The summer holidays in Melbourne have seen a surge in violent crime committed by men described as being of African appearance. The crime wave did not happen overnight and has been a feature of Melbourne suburbs such as Tarniet and Cranbourne for the past two years.

There has been renewed pressure on the Andrews state government to introduce tougher law and order policies, particularly around youth offenders, including the soft sentences handing out to them and regular granting of bail. Though it has proved difficult for Andrews government ministers and the leadership of Victoria Police to even admit there is a problem with African youth gangs.

The federal government has also voiced its frustration about the state’s surge in crime with senior Coalition Victorian MPs Alan Tudge, Greg Hunt and Jason Wood calling on the Andrews government take stronger action. The strongest rebuke came from Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton who slammed politically correct policing in the state and the joke sentences handed down by civil libertarian Magistrates. He also stated he would do all he could in his power to deport those African criminals who had been convicted of violent crimes.

The left of course eager to preserve its dream of multicultural utopia claims the concern in the Victorian community and calls on the state government to introduce stronger policing and tougher sentencing is motivated by racism. Leftist commentators and even Andrews Government Ministers labelled the True Blue Crew’s crime crisis meeting to look at better community protection as a Nazi gathering.

Given that Melbourne is the home of the radical left it should be no surprise that a rally is planned this Sunday at the State Library of Victoria called ‘Black Lives Matter Rally: Say No to Racism, Stop Criminalising African Communities‘.

The organiser of the event Jasmine Ali has organised another Black Lives Matter rally outside the Flemington Housing Commission Estate in December last year claiming the police were racist towards African residents of the estate when a number of them joined the riotous protest against the Milo Yiannoplous event occurring at the venue adjustment. This was despite none of them being charged.

Despite it being billed as Black Lives Matter rally it was mainly attended by white social justice warriors with many African community leaders urging residents to stay away from the protest given the reputation for violence these leftist rallies have. It remains to be seen if the same advice will be given for this latest rally.

The Facebook description for this Sunday’s protest calls the recent crimes involving African youths only as “incidents involving young African people” and believes its outrageous that those convicted of violent crimes are being threatened with deportation.

It makes the claim that crime in Victoria according to the latest crime statistics has decreased however looking at the statistics more closely violent crime categories that we are seeing reported on the news are on the rise. The description of course omits that those born in Sudan are over represented in the crime statistics being responsible for 1% of total crime in Victoria, despite only making up 0.1% of the state’s population.

They are demanding no tougher sentencing, stricter bail or deportations and instead increased funding for public schools, housing and communities services. It also opposes the introduction of the national criminal intelligence framework.

The rally is bizarrely endorsed by the National Tertiary Education Union, the National Union of Workers and features a speaker from Trades Hall. One would ask the question how does a criminal justice issue have anything to do with Australian workers’ pay and conditions? Among the other speakers a state MP for Greens and representative from the taxpayer funded Centre for Multicultural Youth.

Of course claiming that wanting law and order in a state is racist also has the consequences of making young offenders of African backgrounds believe they are being punished not because they broke the law but because of their race and makes rehabilitation more difficult. Just last week a 20 year old Sudanese man accused of threatening to kill and rape police called the Magistrate who denied him bail racist and claimed he would sue him for racial discrimination.

Given the last rally was poorly attended and failed to influence the state government it is likely this will just be another public display of leftist rage. One hopes the police make sure it doesn’t get out of hand and we don’t see any more inflammatory language like we saw at the Invasion Day protests.
