CNN’s front-page features stories about teenage pregnancy in the Philippines and the most luxurious airports in the world. MSNBC’s front-page features stories about a teacher’s strike and Donald Trump’s former aid. ABC’s front-page features stories about a tank found underwater and a hairdresser who wouldn’t cut a woman’s hair. What’s missing? The fact that the president of South Africa has voted to take land from white farmers, offering them no compensation for it.
How is it possible that self-proclaimed serious news outlets would ignore such an important story regarding targeted seizure of private property based on racial profiling? It’s hard to say, but it’s safe to assume that it’s a mix of bias, pandering, gross-negligence, and a lack of moral character.
Make no mistake, this is one of the most significant and important stories of the year. A once progressive economic success story speculated to be Africa’s socio/political jewel has moved to implement tangible and verifiable institutional racism. Anyone who would claim that this move is not racist because of white privilege or something of the sort must have ice pumping through their veins. These are innocent people losing their livelihoods because of the colour of their skin.
Yet, CNN, the supposed most trusted name in news, has not a single article documenting this racist land-grab. A search for “white farmers South Africa” on CNN will bring up an article named “South Africa’s new President invokes Mandela, promises ‘a new dawn’” and not a single article exclusively about the vote to confiscate white people’s land.
ABC & MSNBC are guilty of such journalistic negligence and don’t even get me started on lefty alternative media like the Huffington Post and The Young Turks. This is one of the greatest displays of low moral character, cold-heartedness, and interest-driven reporting that’s been seen in a very long time.
The Unshackled will not stay silent about this. We will stand with the people of South Africa and we suggest you the same. SHARE this article and make sure people take notice!
