Queensland has had a reputation for being Australia’s most conservative state. It’s most famous Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen was an unashamed social conservative ruling the state from 1968-87. He had no time for left wing agitators on the street or at universities and never bent to political correctness or progressive causes.

However since the National Party lost power in 1989 the conservative coalition has only ruled state for a total of 5 years. From 1996 to 1998 the National/Liberal Coalition only came into government after a by-election went their way. As the Liberal National Party in 2012 it won a landslide victory under Campbell Newman only be turfed out after one term.

At its most recent state election the Annastacia Palaszczuk was narrowly reelected, a victory partly put down to the lacklusture performance on the LNP Opposition and One Nation preferences. In the recent Australian Marriage Postal Survey the state recorded a 60.7% yes response with 27 of its 30 electorates voting yes.

Since its reelection the Palaszczuk Government appears to feel emboldened to lurch further to left in its second term and achieving majority government. There have been several examples of this in just the past few months.

Annastacia Palaszczuk has all but killed the Adani coal mine in North Queensland by vetoing a federal government loan to build a railway to the sea port. The federal government has since conceded that the entire project is now in doubt which would have provided thousands of jobs for regional Queensland. Palaszczuk has also committed to a 50% renewable energy target by 2030.

The Queensland budget situation has continued to deteriorate and will probably be made worse by Annastacia Palaszczuk’s appointment as Treasurer her deputy Jackie Trad who comes from the socialist left of the Labor Party and who only just fended off a challenge from the Greens in her inner city seat of South Brisbane.

When it comes to leftist social reengineering the Palaszczuk has been ramping that up. Although it does not support the Safe Schools branding in its election manifesto it promised to “invest in professional development, training and ongoing support for school principals, teachers and support staff so that they can support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer [or] questioning students.”

Many eyebrows were also raised when the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads decided to remove gender from the state’s drivers licences, the reason given was that so they would comply with anti-discrimination laws.

Even the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games are not immune from politically correct interference from the government. Volunteers have been instructed not to use the term “ladies and gentlemen” and instead use gender-neutral language to avoid causing offence. Games volunteers were the target of the politically correct agenda again when they were told they could use the Aboriginal greeting ‘jingeri’ instead of the traditional Australian greeting of ‘g’day’.

Commonwealth Games staff were also invited to an Invasion Day barbeque in the lead up to Australia Day 2018. Radical Aboriginal activists are labeling the games the Stolen Wealth Games and a temporary embassy is being planned to be located on the Gold Coast for the duration of the Games which is being accommodated by the games’ organisers. Today we learned that while the organisers had been concerning themselves with political correctness they have printed the Opening Ceremony tickets with the wrong day on them.

Queensland under the Palaszczuk Government is raptly starting to resemble the politically correct state of Victoria under the Daniel Andrews Government. Both are doing their most to appease both radical LGBT and Aboriginal activists, plan to cripple the state’s prosperity with renewable energy and have demonstrated a total disregard to the state’s finances.

The direction of both states is also an indication of just how far left the Labor Party has gone, if they can implement a far left agenda in Queensland they can do it anywhere. We are not even three months into the Palaszczuk Government’s second term, who knows what else they have planned or how much damage they can do by the time the next state election is due in October 2020.
