Governments Consider Communist Style Rationing of Electricity This Summer

0

This summer could be the hottest summer on record for many of us, not because of global warming but governments ordering us not to turn on the air conditioning. Forget cooling the earth, it would appear that the main effect climate change mitigation policies are having on Australia is to make our electricity supply as unreliable as that which existed in a communist regime.

Therefore, it is probably fitting that at least one state government is considering communist style rationing of electricity this summer to avoid blackouts. We have never had to consider such action in previous summers but all state governments are now being urged to consider plans to reduce the likelihood of blackouts.

Queensland’s Palaszczuk Government has released a blueprint of measures aimed at reducing peak electricity use this summer. According to the Courier Mail these include households and business being told to restrict air conditioners to 26 degrees. Hot water services and pool pumps being rerouted during times of peak demand and businesses could be instructed to turn off advertising lights and prevent any other non-essential electricity use.

The Turnbull Government working with the New South Wales Government and power company AGL is putting forward a $36 million trial to encourage consumers to reduce their energy consumption. These including mass text messages (remember how much we love those) as well as AGL offering discounts on power bills if households voluntarily agree to cut their power use in peak times.

We are living in the 21st Century, we should be living in a time of cheap, abundant and reliable power. But instead our governments as well as businesses’ blindly adherence to the climate change religion which has already driven many Australians into energy poverty through high power prices and now into energy rationing.

The Labor Party despite Australians getting a taste of life under a so called clean energy future last summer with the state-wide blackout in South Australia is still fully committed to both its federal and various state renewable energy targets.

The governments of New South Wales and Victoria will not consider lifting their restrictions on gas exploration despite the fact it would significantly increase energy availability in Australia and produces less emissions than coal.

At least the Turnbull Government appears to be waking up this climate madness with it set to dump the adoption of the Clean Energy Target proposed by Chief Scientist Alan Finkel.

The business community also deserves its fair share of the blame of our current energy crisis. The coal fired power stations that have closed in recent years have been owned by private corporations. These corporations and climate change activists have claimed these are all commercial decisions which reflect the profitability of coal in the modern age.

However, these decisions by business have also been influenced by their own adherence to climate change mitigation as part of their corporate social responsibility. Of course, the massive subsidies offered to renewable energy have also enticed business to jump on the climate change bandwagon. This is why new coal projects are not being privately funded as the big banks won’t finance them. This is why you see those virtue signalling commercials from AGL boasting how they are getting out of coal. This is why the Turnbull Government is considering making a dramatic intervention in the market to fund new coal fired power stations.

The solution to Australia’s energy crises is allowing the creation of cheaper reliable power. It is certainly not reducing Australians living standards by imposing power rationing on them. If there are more blackouts this summer, with billions of dollars’ worth of productivity lost and millions of lives at risk you have to wonder when the virtue signalling on climate change from our political leaders and business will end?
