Maverick Nationals MP George Christensen has come under fire from the left on social media for a caption he wrote on his Facebook page to a photo of him shooting a pistol which said “You gotta ask yourself, do you feel lucky, greenie punks?”

The parent post was Christiensen visiting the George Shooting Range with the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia Mackay Branch. Christensen pledged his support for federal government funding to extend the shooting range and put up a defense of law abiding firearm owners.

George also posted a video his session at the range commenting that he had a lot of work to do improve his shot.

His shooting greenies comment although it was made yesterday has now started to cop the leftists’ wrath on social media. They have claimed it is highly inflammatory, offensive in this period after the Florida school shooting and to victims of gun violence as a whole.

Greens Senator Sarah Hanson Young took the honour of being the first Green to be offended.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions also bizarrely decided to weigh in despite gun politics have nothing to do with workplace relations and one of their most prominent union leaders former ETU Victorian Secretary Dean Mighell was also a National President of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia.

Leftist journalist Ben Eltham also claimed Christensen was inciting violence against his political opponents.

It is not the first time George Christensen has courted controversy on his social media channels. In 2016 he appeared to endorse the extra judicial killings of drug dealers by Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte.

Was Christensen’s caption just a colourful joke, or did it go too far? We should probably not let the leftist outrage machine decide that.

UPDATE:

George Christensen has no regrets about his joke and is pleased that he has managed to trigger the left and the Greens.

UPDATE:

Farifax Media is reporting that Christensen has been referred to police for his joke by Stop Adani’s Ben Pennings who added it to a complaint he filed with Queensland police on Thursday that documented over 100 death threats he’d received.
