African Youths Riot in Melbourne. Andrews’ Government Says Don’t Look at Sky

Residents in the western Melbourne suburb of Taylors Hill on Wednesday night were subjected to a terrifying riot of around 50 Sudanese youths which began as “a teenage relationship issue over a girl”. The police deployed specialist units including the Operations Response Unit with residents ordered to stay in their homes and taxi drivers advised to avoid the area.

Despite the “youths” pelting police with rocks and damaging a police car no arrests were made that night. However Victorian Police Commander Tim Hansen told Radio 3AW that in regards to keeping residents safe “We were really successful at that. We launched an investigation overnight. I just want to reassure everyone we take a zero tolerance (approach) with this sort of behaviour. You’ll certainly see some movement in the investigation and arrest space in coming days”.

Many Melbournians were asking how can you keep the streets from thugs if you don’t bother to arrest any of them? The youths while rioting even taunted “police can’t touch us”. Former Police Commissioner Kel Glare stated that finding and arresting the offenders later was the wrong approach “The burden of proof isn’t that high to charge someone with affray, the only difficulty is the practical one — identifying the offender”.

The Andrews’ Government, Victorian Police and the left in the state have consistently claimed there is no African crime problem in the state yet violent incidents and criminal acts involving African youths continue to occur on a regular basis.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has been critical of the Andrews’ Government inaction on the issue of African crime since the beginning of the year and speaking on Radio 2GB warned that “someone is going to be killed” and that “I don’t know what sort of social experiment Daniel Andrews is trying to conduct in Victoria, but it is failing”.

The next day on the Thursday in what has been widely viewed as a diversion tactic the Andrews’ Government Transport Minister Jacinta Allan announced she had ordered Melbourne’s train operator Metro Trains to remove Sky News bulletins from being shown at train stations due to their airing of an interview with patriot activist Blair Cottrell on Sunday night.

Sky News’ since capitulating to the backlash over the Cottrell interview has made much of the fact that they have now banned him from the network and stated that having him on was a mistake. Jacinta Allan went on Sky that afternoon with their daytime presenters Laura Jayes and David Speers where they stated the Cottrell interview would not have aired at Metro train stations as it strictly airs news bulletins with no opinion programs.

Sky News and other News Corp publications have claimed this action from the Andrews’ Government is a form politician censorship designed to punish Sky News because it has conservative opinion programs such as Credlin, the Bolt Report, Paul Murray Live and the Outsiders. Jacinta Allan it seems succeeded to a degree in distracting Sky News from the riot the night before as it has been talking about itself and claiming itself to be a victim of a totalitarian socialist government.

Australian News Channel which operates Sky News on behalf of News Corp Australia, its CEO Angelos Frangopoulos claimed that “This channel is being used for political gain, it’s corporate and political bullying based on misrepresentations and absolute lies”. Allan’s claim that Sky News being shown at train stations has attracted complaints turned out to be true with APN Outdoor who manages the screen broadcasts said they had not received a single complaint.

Herald Sun cartoonist Mark Knight summed up the weird priorities of Jacinta Allan with his cartoon yesterday.

If the goal of the Andrews’ Government and Jacinta Allan was to district critics of their government from the very serious issue of African and gang violence and crime in Melbourne then they succeeded, especially in News Corp publications. Sky News not being shown at train stations should not be seen as an important political issue and it is a stretch to claim it is an act of censorship. All Victorians can easily find alternative ways to watch Sky News with all of its opinion programs.

The move would have also rallied support for the Andrews Government among its leftist base who see the network and News Corp as the main propagator of hate and racism in Australia.

There is a state election in Victoria in November with law and order set to be the biggest issue. While the so called Sky News ban distracted some people for 24 hours these criminal incidents involving African youths will continue to occur and no amount of calling those concerned about it racist or trying to shift the political conversation to other issues will change that.
