A Week of Man Hating – Part 2: ‘Masculinity Ideology’ A Psychological Disorder
The attack on masculinity now has the backing of the medical community with The American Psychological Association, in a new set of guidelines deeming “masculinity ideology” a psychological disorder which manifests itself in “anti-femininity, achievement, eschewal of the appearance of weakness, and adventure, risk, and violence.”
The treatment of “masculinity ideology” was need due the fact “Men commit approximately 90 percent of all homicides in the U.S., they are far more likely than women to be arrested and charged with intimate partner violence” and the “power” and “privilege” they have over their female counterparts.
Jared Skillings the APA’s chief of professional practice said that “masculinity ideology “represents a set of characteristics that are unhealthy for men — men who are sexist or violent or don’t take care of themselves” and that “male privilege often comes with a cost in the form of adherence to sexist ideologies designed to maintain male power that also restrict men’s ability to function adaptively.”
