It’s amazing, a THIRD Melbourne council has voted to support an Antifa riot planned for later this month.

Darebin Council has become the third Melbourne council to vote in support of the planned blockade to shut down the IMARC mining conference being held in Melbourne between the 28th and 31st of October. This follows resolutions pledging support, resources and taxpayer-funded premises in which to organise from both Yarra Council and Moreland Council and a similar pledge of support from the Victorian Greens State Executive.

Greens Councillor Trent McCarthy proposed the motion. Before this vote, Councillor McCarthy was perhaps best known for his alleged involvement in the sabotage of the by-election campaign of Greens candidate Alex Bhathal in 2018.

The “Blockade IMARC” event is being organised primarily by Socialist Alternative, a revolutionary Marxist group of the Trotskyist tradition. Socialist Alternative activists have funded the printing of posters, organised the poster runs, been the prime organisers of the planning meetings, and acted as spokespersons to the press. Two Socialist Alternative activists, Emma Black and Sarah Garnham, are on the record with the press describing their plans for the IMARC blockade as a re-creation of the S11 riots that occurred in September 2000 outside Crown Casino.

The S11 riots saw thousands of leftists (led by members of
the Socialist Party, the International Socialist Organisation, the Democratic
Socialist Party and Socialist Alternative) surrounding Crown Casino and attacking
police, paramedics and the Premier of Western Australia in an orgy of
vandalism, thuggery and urine-filled balloons. The event was considered such a
success for the extreme left that many of the groups involved came together to
form a new group called the “Socialist Alliance”.

Prominent amongst the rioters were members of Australia’s anarchist community dressed in the black clothes and masks that have become synonymous with political violence in Australia ever since. While Victoria’s new anti-mask laws mean that this time the black-clad rich-kids in dress-up will have to show their faces, there is little sign that the modern followers of this ideology are any less eager for mob violence than their predecessors.

Darebin council declared that its support for the blockade was based on its understanding that the event would be “non-violent and inclusive”. The entire council unanimously voted to endorse an illegal blockade of a legal event co-sponsored by the Victorian State government. An illegal blockade organised by a violent extremist group which openly declares it wants to overthrow the government and is currently boasting that it wants to recreate the biggest far-left riot so far this century. And to repeat, Darebin council voted to support this event because the organisers promised them it wouldn’t be violent.

Yes, really.

I don’t know whether to congratulate the councillors of Darebin for the sheer scale of their double-think, to condemn them for the bald-faced nature of their lies, or to simply question their sanity.

Regardless, it looks like the planned illegal blockade is gathering momentum.
