Greens senator and disability rights advocate Jordon Steele-John was speaking on Friday at the University of Melbourne where he stated, ‘the era of the dominant, white, able-bodied man is over’ to a roaring crowd of supporters.
He was speaking because he was won the McKinnon political leaders award. The award was given ‘for his courageous, visionary and collaborative political leadership’.
Senator Penny Wong was named the 2018 McKinnon Political Leader of the Year for her leadership and advocacy in promoting a more tolerant and inclusive Australia and for shaping Australia’s foreign policy dialogue.

The McKinnon Prize in Political Leadership is a new, non-partisan and independent award that will recognise two outstanding Australian political leaders each year.
