Lily Campbell of Socialist Alternative arrested in Sydney

Lily Campbell (an organiser with Socialist Alternative, Extinction rebellion and “Uni Students for Climate Justice”) was arrested and detained overnight along with 30 other protesters after deliberately blocking traffic in central Sydney on Monday afternoon. The protest is one of many meant to build momentum in the lead-up to larger events across the country later this month, in an attempt to keep the issue of global warming alive in the minds of the public after it failed to grasp the public imagination at the last federal election.

Ms Campbell and many of her comrades were held overnight by NSW police. According to fellow Socialist Alternative organiser Hersha Kadkol (who was also in attendance at the protest), the proposed bail conditions for Lily and friends stipulated that the protesting pests be banned from entering a two-kilometre radius of the CBD and that they may not attend future Extinction Rebellion events or associate with other Extinction Rebellion organisers. They refused to sign and so were held in custody.

Lily Campbell is an extremely prominent activist and organiser for Socialist Alternative. She has appeared on ABC’s Radio National as a representative of Socialist Alternative to argue the case for Marxism. She also appeared on Sky News arguing for Marxism, argues for Marxism in her articles in the Socialist Alternative newspaper Red Flag and was elected both education officer at the University of Sydney’s student union and National Union of Students NSW Vice president on a Socialist Alternative ticket. She was involved along with fellow Socialist Alternative activist Omar Hassan in organising the violent protest that blockaded a speech by dissident feminist Bettina Arndt at USyd that led to the riot squad being called and to the university reluctantly enacting disciplinary action. Lily Campbell was also a spokeswoman for the Socialist Alternative-led mob that attacked Christine Forster (sister of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott). Lily cheered the crowd as they spat on her, abused her and ripped her jacket off her back. Ms Campbell was also an organiser for the Marxist-led campaign against the Ramsay Centre establishing a centre for Western Civilisation at USyd. More recently, Lily Campbell has acted as the front woman for the Sydney branch of the Socialist Alternative front group “Uni Students for Climate Justice”.

So naturally, when she was arrested, how did the Sydney Morning Herald describe this woman who is a public spokesperson for a revolutionary Marxist group that wants to overthrow the government and implement a totalitarian socialist state?

“Protest Organiser”

Of course.

Thankfully, it seems that the NSW police have had enough of their local traffic-blocking Marxist miscreants.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Mick Willing has declared that the traffic-blocking blockheads “continue to set out to break the law and put themselves and others at risk.

“We are aware that this particular group of protesters intend to cause significant disruption to the community, and any future activity of this nature will not be tolerated by NSW Police.

“Anyone who chooses to flout the rules and cause
trouble should expect to feel the full force of the law.”

What a novel concept. Left-wing extremists being held to account when they break the law. We only hope his colleagues in other states learn from the Assistant Commissioner’s innovative example.
