Show Description
On this week’s review show we are joined once again by Co-Editor in Chief of The Unshackled Sukith Fernando. We start by discussing the just passed New South Wales Liberal Party State Conference, where the Warringah motion championed by Tony Abbott passed which allows plebiscites to be held for Liberal preselections. We state that the reform was needed as it ends the dominance of the left faction of the Liberal Party controlling preselections, which had resulted in uninspiring MPs being elected and disillusioned conservative members. We comment that the arguments that plebiscites lead to extreme candidates is actually a good thing, as a person like Trump under a factional delegate system could never rise to be Prime Minister.

We also discuss Bill Shorten vowing to make inequality centerpiece of Labor’s next election campaign in a speech on Friday to an economic forum, he then followed on this week to announce they were targeting family trusts’ tax arrangements. If you add this to Labor’s negative gearing policy, opposition to company tax cuts and the removal of the debt levy and wanting to restore Sunday penalty rates, a Labor government will send us down the road to economic ruin. We make the point that if Labor was trying to fight poverty and inequality they would not peruse climate policies which have forced jobs offshore, and raised the cost of living of everybody.

We reflect on Donald Trump’s first six months since he took office as President of the United States. We highlight that Trump has implemented as much of his agenda that was possible through executive order, such as the travel ban and withdrawing from the Trans Pacific Partnership and the Paris Climate Accord. However his legislative efforts such as repealing Obamacare have been thwarted, despite the Republicans controlling both houses of Congress. We comment that on foreign policy he has been okay, with ISIS now on the backfoot and pursuing better relations with Russia, but the Syria strike and Trump containing US relations with Saudi Arabia has been disappointing. We summarize that he’s done the best job he can under the circumstances of putting up with all the fake news and hostility from the political establishment.

We also comment on the leftist antics of the AFL with its continued virtue signalling on various social justice issues. They just had their gay pride match and next round is multicultural round which predominantly promotes Islam. We highlight its a bit rich of the AFL they lecture us on social issues when they have had their own scandals, with their former diversity officer Ali Fahour king hitting another player on the field and the forced resignations of two of their executives for having affairs with other AFL employees. We urge them to stick to sport and keep politics out of it, otherwise they risk jeopardizing the popularity of the game.
