On our interview show this week we are joined by Tim Andrews who is the Founder and Executive Director of the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance. It is a grassroots advocacy and activist organization dedicated to fighting high taxes, wasteful spending, and crippling red tape and also to be hub for all of those who oppose the big-government agenda. It runs campaigns on issues such as free speech, the nanny state and bureaucratic waste.
We ask him about the specific aims of the organization and how they approach their public policy goals. We also learn about the most effective ways educate the public about the failures of big-government and how that in turn influences politicians who create the laws. We discuss why it seems that Australia has the worst nanny state laws in the world given Australians seem to enjoy a good time. We then discuss the state of the libertarian movement in the world including points of contention such as outreach to the left, the meaning of free speech and also what the Trump Presidency means for liberty.
The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance also hosts the annual Australian Libertarian Society Friedman Conference which The Unshackled is sponsoring this year. It is being held in Sydney on the weekend April 28th-29th at the UTS Ariel Function Center. Supporters of The Unshackled can get a 10% discount on tickets here using coupon code UNSHACKLED.
