Another prominent international speaker set to tour Australia next month is Dr Stephen Hicks. He is a Canadian-American philosopher who teaches at Rockford University, Illinois. His areas of academic expertise are critiques of postmodernism and the return of Marxism. He is also a great defender of capitalism and free speech. We were lucky today to have an advance chat with Dr Hicks before he arrives in Australia and learn a bit more about his ideas.
We explore what exactly postmodernism is and how it has manifested itself in university discourse with the introduction of trigger warnings, microaggresions and safe spaces. We look at the return of Marxism and socialism and what are the exact conditions that have allowed these ideas to once again become popular. We provide a defence of capitalism against attacks from green ideology and fairness advocates. We finish by looking at Dr Hicks battles in Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism.
