Ever since Margaret Court announced last month she would no longer be flying Qantas due to its CEO Alan Joyce using his position to advocate for same sex marriage, she has been the left’s number one target. So when it was revealed that she would be the keynote speaker at a Liberal Party fundraiser for its new candidate for the Victorian state seat of Sandringham Brad Rowswell the event was bound to attract leftist protestors.

In a society such as ours people should be free to attend a private event and hear from an eminent Australian such as Margaret Court without feeling intimidated or having the event disrupted. But the regressive left these days cannot tolerate any opposing viewpoints as they view their opponents as evil and spreaders of hate speech. Not content to constantly mock and ridicule her in the media and demand that the tennis arena named in her honour be renamed they had to attempt to disrupt this event.

A protest was organised by a socialist aligned LGBT organisation Equal Love (which of course is more about hate) outside the event which was being held at the Athenaeum Club in Central Melbourne. The protest was organised on Facebook and had attracted the attention of all of the mainstream media outlets. So, The Unshackled decided to attend this protest, not to give these leftists a platform, but to keep an eye on them and expose any thuggery that may take place as well as offering fair coverage of the event.

The main group of protesters turned up at around 5.30pm, many of them were from the Socialist Alternative whose reputation speaks for itself, with a megaphone to make as much noise as possible, as well as a video projector to shine their slogans up in the air and in the windows of the club. Contrary to mainstream media reports there were only about 40 protestors and thankfully a heavy police presence.

They had clearly been practicing their chants all day with lines such as ‘your bigotry won’t pass the net’ and ‘you’ve lost the set’. As well as the usual chants demanding so called ‘marriage equality’ and trying to equate it with the fight for interracial marriage.

Then it was time for speeches, all of the speakers were eager to say that they were not here to take away Margaret Court’s speech but here to stop the hate (whatever that means) and that part of free speech was their right of reply. They also took the opportunity to spew vitriol against the Liberal Party and Malcolm Turnbull, even though the government has offered a path to same sex marriage through a national vote.

They liked using the word bigotry a lot, the main spokesperson from Equal Love also implied that Margaret Court must have some form of dementia. They were all big fans of the Safe Schools program, given that most of the attendees there were rabid socialists its culturally Marxist dogma is the perfect education program.

Another chant they engaged in was ‘out of the closet and into the streets’. They were carrying as if LGBT have no rights in this country. Their behaviour is legal and has been now for many years, most Australians do not care about a person’s sexuality (as long as they don’t rub it in people’s faces every five seconds) and violence against LGBT people is rare. They are given sympathetic media coverage, there are so many community organisations dedicated to their lifestyle, this is of course is all out in the open.

Despite their spoken commitment to free speech they made it difficult for attendees to safely make their way in, there was a front entrance (where the protest was initially located) but also a back entrance which once they found out about it tried to storm their way in but were blocked by police. Once they realised they’d left the front vacant, they stormed back there (they were obviously not smart enough to split into two groups and guard both entrances).

But thankfully there were no major incidents of violence for which the regressive left has become famous for, but nevertheless a private event like should not need a police presence or public roads blocked off (which inconveniences people who have nothing to do with the event). These ‘marriage equality’ supporters sure wouldn’t react well if traditional marriage supporters decided to voice their views at their gatherings, they would probably respond with violence.

The left cannot voice their disagreement through the proper channels, they have to harass and inconvenience those they disagree with. The protest went well beyond just exercising free speech. The Unshackled will continue to cover major events like this to make these regressives are exposed for their grubby and disruptive tactics.
