He was once considered the embodiment of the great Aussie larrikin that many feared was dead. But now Karl Stefanovic is just another leftist media hack who uses his platform as co-host of the Today Show to virtue signal on the social justice issues of the day.

Karl was once famous for his political incorrectness, in 2015 asked a group of Indian cricket fans when they were all attending the Cricket World Cup semi-final in Melbourne who would be running the 7-Elevens today. After Waleed Aly’s Gold Logie win in 2016 he commented that his co-host Lisa Wilkinson didn’t win the Gold Logie because she was white. He also provoked outrage when he joked that all New Zealanders who came to Australia were dole bludgers and laughed off angry emails about it.

His credentials as a typical Aussie bloke were considered so strong that he was deemed a suitable substitute host for Ben Fordham’s Sydney Live program on 2GB, a radio station considered to be the voice of ordinary Australia.

But it would appear this Karl has become cucked to use the expression. There were signs of this last year when he offered a cringeworthy apology for joking about tranny robbers in Brazil during the Rio Olympics. He called himself an ‘ignorant tool’ and said, “I honestly didn’t know the negative and deeply hurtful impact that word has, not only on members of the LGBTQI community, but on their family and on their friends”.

This year however he is now delivering fully fledged editorials on the Today Show espousing progressive causes. First he chastised the Liberal party room for sticking to its election commitment to hold a plebiscite on the issue of same sex marriage “A non-binding, non-compulsory postal vote is complete BS” adding further “Why are we stopping people from loving each other?”. He also felt the need to comfort a blubbering Magda Szubanski when she appeared on the Today Show to promote same sex marriage.

Some would argue that supporting same sex marriage doesn’t mean you can’t be considered a typical Aussie bloke. But attacking Australia Day certainly invalidates such an assertion. This was Karl’s most recent editorial arguing that Australian Day should be changed to January 1 to accommodate alleged Indigenous objections and that it would somehow advance Indigenous welfare “If we are to truly follow through with the apology and move forward together hand in hand, arm in arm, then I believe it [the date] must change”.

Karl has copped significant backlash on social media for his sudden career change to social justice warrior. But he would appear to be unfazed with it as he has just published a manifesto which states he is running for Prime Minister.

The first paragraph appears to disparage what he would probably call the uneducated plebs “I don’t like Muslims. I don’t like gays. I don’t like the environment and I don’t want to preserve it. I need some government handouts. I think there should be more reality television, funded by taxpayers — on Channel Nine. Now that I have your attention, my name is Karl Stefanovic and I’m running for Prime Minister”.

His manifesto appears to take the position of radical centrism as there is a lot of mixed messages. He believes coal is still important to keep power prices low yet claims climate change is undeniable and wants to extra taxes to protect the Great Barrier Reef. He supports lower taxes but wants to raise the GST to 15%. He also has the bizarre line about immigration “we must control arrivals, not people smugglers”. There was of course a restatement of his desire to change Australia Day and be honest about our history. Not surprisingly this manifesto didn’t seem to win back any of his new critics.

One wonders what happened to Karl that he is now not much different to all the other left-wing journalists such as Waleed Aly? It could be that years in the media surrounded by elites finally rubbed off on him. His co-host on Lisa Wilkinson has for years espoused left-wing positions (Karl was supposed to be the conservative balance on the Today Show) so that is one explanation.

Whatever the reason for Karl’s new politics it is another example of the leftist group think that pervades the mainstream media. Ordinary Australians it would now seem have no conservative alternative to tune into at breakfast time. If this type of change can happen to somebody like Karl then it demonstrates there is very little room for conservatives in our media.
