Polish MP Delivers Another Cathy Newman Fail on the Migrant Crisis

European Politics, Immigration, Media, Nationalism, Rundown

Poor Cathy Newman, she can’t quite nail an interview. Cathy Newman has been the anchor of Channel 4 News in the United Kingdom since 2011.

But earlier this year she gained international infamy for her aggressive interview with Canadian clinical psychologist Dr Jordan Peterson. She attempted to obtain a gotcha moment when questioning him on his views on the gender wage gap, transgender pronouns and free speech. However, it was Newman herself who experienced the gotcha moment when she couldn’t refute his defence of free speech.

The resulting worldwide mockery and ridicule Newman experienced in the aftermath of the interview which has been viewed over 10 million times on YouTube resulted in her employer Channel 4 calling in the police and security experts to deal with several death threats she received.

Rather than reflect on her failings in the Peterson interview Newman instead decided to portray himself as a victim claiming in an interview with The Guardian that online criticism of her was due to “the internet being written by men with an agenda”. She also in the same interview declared herself a feminist, a supporter of the MeToo movement and reminisced about how she broke the glass ceiling in the journalism profession.

Now Cathy Newman has experienced another fail during an interview and made an internet sensation out of her subject. Channel 4 News on the June 18 featured a story on continuing European migrant crisis and how German Chancellor Angela Merkel open door immigration policy is threatening to bring down her Coalition Government.

Newman then turned to a panel discussion between German Green Party/Free Alliance Europe MEP Barbara Lochbihler and Dominik Tarczynski, an MP from Poland’s ruiling Law and Justice party who have consistently refused pressure from the European Union to take in migrants coming into Europe.

Newman first asks Tarczynski given that there are unaccompanied children and pregnant women on these ships if he feels a sense of shame in that there is still political disagreement on the issue. Tarczynski bluntly responded that the only shame should be on the parents who put their children in such a dangerous situation.

Newman then pushes Tarczynski by glossing over his point by asking if these women and children are in this situation don’t the politicians have a moral humanitarian duty to step in. Again bluntly Tarczynski replied ‘No!’ stating that the issue is not about people fleeing war or refugees but illegal immigration and enforcing the law of your nation.

Newman finally then questions Barbara Lochbihler about whether all these migrants are genuine refugees for which she defends the parents sending their children to Europe, how they are all from war-torn areas and that the European Union has a responsibility to take them. Tarczynski can be seen shaking his head and interjects ‘then take them! take them all and pay for them’.

After Lochbihler says that other European nations need to take the burden off Germany. Newman then asks Tarczynski ‘How many refugees has Poland taken?’ to which again Tarczynski says bluntly ‘Zero’. Newman clearly shocked by this asks ‘And you’re proud of that?’ To which Tarczynskielborates ‘If you’re asking me about Muslim illegal immigration, not even one will come to Poland’.

Newman then quotes European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker who called Poland racist for not taking in any refugees and again says ‘You sound proud of that’. Tarczynski responds ‘Of course because this is what our people expect from our government’ and moves onto his second point that their policy is ‘why Poland is so safe’ ‘ this is why Poland has not had one terror attack’ and that ‘we can be called populist, nationalists, racists. I don’t care. I care about my family and my country’.

Barbara Lochbihler gets the final question from Newman who puts to her that the public is turning against the migrants to which she says all of the reports of increases in crime are lies and that German government statistics back up her position and that Donald Trump is a liar.

It is clear from the segment that Newman wants to portray Tarczynski as a heartless racist rather than a man standing up for his people. She genuinely appears shocked even triggered by his position. Her questions to Lochbihler are more along the lines of you understand the arguments against your position?

Despite the segment being two weeks old, it has only just gone viral now with it being shared by a variety of right-wing Facebook pages including Paul Joseph Watson. Many asking why aren’t our leaders as admirable as Tarczynski. These videos only contain Tarczynski’s zero refugee comment but the full segment can be found on Channel 4 News’ website.

We shouldn’t be too harsh on Cathy Newman as we would not have known such conviction politicians still existed out there without her inviting him on the show and attempting and failing to take him on. Her failure is everyone else’s gain.
