After a black-swan election defeat for the Democrats in which a long-time experienced establishment democrat was defeated by a first-time political hopeful, the Democratic party has been struggling to realize their identity. The struggle between a common-sense centrist and moving further to the left when it comes to their following candidate is yet to be established.
Today, however, it seems that one of the Democrats’ greatest, and perhaps only hope is the former vice-president to Barrack Obama, Joe Biden, who has been flirting with a 2020 election run for some time now and has just received some optimistic news. According to a Politico/Morning Consult Joe Biden holds a clear lead against Donald Trump for the 2020 presidential election.
The poll, which queried registered voters across party lines, saw a plurality of Americans — 44% — say they’d choose to vote for Biden over Donald Trump. Only around 37% said they’d vote to re-elect the current president.
Certainly, president Biden would be better than president Sanders or president Warren as far as he rejects the newest democratic initiatives such as the abolishing of immigration protection police, minimum livable wages, and the elimination of prisons. This, however, is a return to the Obama-style politics that the US has recently rejected.
The election is still two years away, and as currently stands the democratic party has a greater crisis of identity than the Republicans currently have, but time cures all wounds and the Democrats may unite behind a traditional leftist candidate like Biden in an attempt to de-throne Donald Trump, and right now it looks like they have a good chance to make it happen.
