Google Lists “Nazism” as Republican Ideology Ahead of Election Primary

Elections, Internet, Rundown, US Politics

A brief time before Senate primaries, it seems the Californian have received a bad piece of PR on behalf of the largest search engine in the world. Google’s description of the California Republicans mentions, among other things, fiscal conservatism, free market capitalism, and Nazism.

The result was first reported on by Vice and has since then drawn massive amounts of criticism from Republicans for negligence and defamation. In a statement to Fox News, Google assured that the result was not a caused by manual change, rather it was created by Google’s algorithm based on popular search results.

This explanation on behalf of Google is perfectly viable. Seeing as California is overall on the left it is not hard to see how many of their citizens would search for the Republican party in conjunction with Nazism. The question that has yet to be answered is how allowed for an autonomous algorithm to determine the ideologies of a political party in such a way.
