Fake News Alert: The Age Plays Down Victoria’s Crime Wave

2

If you live in Melbourne you only need to turn on the nightly news and see that the state of Victoria is in the midst of a crime wave. News bulletins are full of home invasions, car jackings and other forms of violent crime. The situation in some suburbs of Melbourne is so bad that residents are resorting to hiring private security, serving vigilante justice as they live in fear they could fall victim to violent crime at any moment.

What makes matters worse is that Victorians have a government and Premier in Daniel Andrews that is not getting tough and also will not recognise the fact that this crime wave is largely being driven by recent migrants and especially African youths who are members of crime gangs including the infamous Apex gang. Even when they are in youth dentition their criminality does not end as we are seeing with the constant riots and even some successfully escaping. In fact, they are more concerned about Victorians being racist against Africans that they recently launched a special taskforce to crackdown on thought crime.

While most of the mainstream media is reporting on the almost daily occurrences of violent crime, one news organisation tells us there is nothing to worry about and we are all being whipped up into a frenzy by demagogues. The Age, Melbourne’s local newspaper and part of Fairfax Media, has published multiple stories playing down the crime wave, or at the least saying there is no link between crime in Victoria and our recent immigration policy.

They published an article on Friday which, although it conceded the crimes committed by Africans were rising, which is undisputable they reassured us it was only small. Not only that but the real victims in Victoria were the poor African youths. They quoted a member of the state government’s Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission who said, “There is no place for criminal behaviour, but one has to look into the underlying issues’’ and went on to claim that crime was caused by a lack of education, welfare and community services available to migrants.

Then the Age employed a great trick when it claimed we should not call this an African crime wave because Sudanese born offenders only make up 4.8 per cent of the aggravated burglaries and 2.1 per cent of car thefts and car-jackings. But there would be plenty of African and other ethnic youths who were born in Australia who would come under the category of Australian citizens who make up more than 80% of crime in Victoria. The Age does not explicitly say but is trying to trick us into believing that all these other crimes are committed by white people.

This is not just an isolated example from The Age, back in February they published without the question comments from Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Stephen Leane that the Apex gang no longer existed and most of them weren’t African and that most of their leaders had been jailed. But all of us never believed crime in Victoria was being driven by one gang or were all from the same part of the globe, it was just that Apex had been involved in some of the more high profile public disturbances in Melbourne such as the confrontation between gang members at Moomba last year.

The readers of The Age might buy this, since they tend to be high income earners living in safe inner city suburbs with not many migrants. For those living in the suburbs the crime wave is not something created by right wing politicians and tabloid media, it is real and has victims. Thankfully most people are not fooled by this type of fake news and are sick of being called racist and xenophobic for pointing out that the rise in crime is committed by migrant communities.

But Premier Daniel Andrews still carries on like nothing alarming is happening, and is more interested in virtue signalling than taking action. Victorian Liberal Opposition Leader Matthew Guy meanwhile is listening and has announced a policy of two strikes and you’re out. Meaning that there will be mandatory minimum sentences for repeat violent offenders under the slogan of ‘Make Victoria Safe Again’. This strikes the right balance between offering rehabilitation to youth offenders but keeping the community safe from truly violent thugs.

The government has already said it will not adopt this policy, meaning that Victorians still have to endure another 18 months of living in fear before they can vote for safer suburbs. In the meantime, we need the rest of media to continue to report on the violent crimes occurring daily in our suburbs, and provide a voice for the victims. Thankfully so far they have been doing this and it is only The Age which is continuing to perpetuate the myth we are living in a culturally enriched paradise.
